We are honoured to announce an upcoming event featuring Nobel Laureate Daron Acemoglu, Institute Professor of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), organised by the Wheeler Institute at London Business School. The event will be hosted by Elias Papaioannou, Professor of Economics at LBS and Co-Academic Director of the Wheeler Institute.
We are delighted to welcome Daron Acemoglu to London Business School. His previous visit to LBS took place in May 2023, as part of the Wheeler Institute Rethinking Capitalism series and you can watch its recording here. Two years later, and after being awarded the Nobel Prize of Economics in 2024, we look forward to hear and learn from Daron Acemoglu about the recent developments and challenges facing the world in 2025.

Daron Acemoglu is the Institute Professor of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a 2024 Nobel Laureate in Economic Sciences. He was awarded the Nobel Prize alongside Simon Johnson and James A. Robinson for their ground-breaking research on how political and economic institutions influence national prosperity.
Acemoglu’s work explores the impact of institutional frameworks on economic development, emphasizing the importance of inclusive institutions that promote democracy, the rule of law, and broad access to economic opportunities. His influential publications include Why Nations Fail, The Narrow Corridor, and Power and Progress.
In addition to the Nobel Prize, Acemoglu has received numerous accolades, such as the John Bates Clark Medal (2005) and the BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award (2016). He holds an Honorary Doctorate from London Business School.
